Microneedling for Stretch Marks Does It Work

Stretch marks represent areas where the dermis has been torn due to rapid stretching, leaving depressed bands of thinned skin. Microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production in these areas, gradually improving the texture and appearance of striae.

Striae Rubra

Red or purple stretch marks in the active inflammatory phase respond best to treatment. At this stage, the marks have more vascular supply and fibroblast activity, which accelerates the remodeling response. Patients typically need 3 to 5 sessions for visible improvement.

Striae Alba

White or silver mature stretch marks are more challenging. They have reduced vascularity and fibroblast activity. Deeper needling at 1.5 to 2.0 millimeters combined with topical growth factors improves outcomes, but results are less dramatic than for red stretch marks.

Treatment Protocol

Sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Treatment depth ranges from 1.0 to 2.0 millimeters depending on the depth and age of the stretch marks. Most patients require 4 to 6 sessions before seeing meaningful improvement.
